From Tuesday 17 th March midday, France is on lockdown in a bid to contain the COVID-19 virus.
French Mortgage Direct, as a non-essential company, has closed its offices to protect our workers and clients from potential exposure.
We are still able to pre-qualify you so that you can plan for the future – to do this, please complete our online form here.
During the lockdown France will come to a standstill with banks, notaries, estate agents, insurers and other professions related to the real estate industry working from home where possible, but in most instances (for banks and insurance providers notably) this is not an option due to security and staff also have to provide care for children whilst the schools are closed. As such, some banks have already stopped accepting new mortgage applications during this time whilst others anticipate long delays. Currently it is impossible to predict how long an application will take or even how it will be dealt with due to the number of parties involved and the uncertainty of the present situation.
One thing the French government has made clear is that no-one will be penalized and we will assist you in providing guidance on how to request an extension to your mortgage clause, or other advice relating to the purchase, during this time.
Please bear with us during these unprecedented times. We look forward to picking up work again normally in the future and helping you secure your French dream.
If you have any questions at all during this time please don’t hesitate to contact us by email here.
Stay safe and healthy.
